About Ruth

Ruth Sutherland is a rare gem – she is both a great harper AND a beautiful singer. Ruth has released 4 award winning CDs and has played to sold out shows around the world. The beauty and purity of Ruth’s voice, accompanied by her intricate harp work, is magical. Her original songs, her exciting interpretations of traditional celtic songs and her beautiful renditions of Scottish and Irish Gaelic songs put her above and beyond the norm.  Her solo career, which includes working at Grant Ave Studio in Hamilton ON with Daniel Lanois in the 80’s, her four award-winning CDs, performances in sold out concerts around the world, has taken her to Lorient France (where she performed with harpists from Brittany, Ireland and Wales,) garnering rave reviews at the World’s largest Celtic music festival, Festival InterCeltique. Ruth is a veteran performer at Festivals, and concerts worldwide, including sold out performances in the Boris Brott Music Festivals, as well as a requested mainstay performer at many Canadian museums – proving her music is timeless and in high demand. Besides her vocals and harp work, Ruth also contributes her original songs, and percussion to the wonderful sound of Scantily Plaid.
